These candidates will preserve our rural values and protect property values:
Chris Barney
My name is Chris Barney and I own a couple of lots in the subdivision. I really feel compelled to run for a position on the HLRPOA board as I have personally experienced a troubling event in regards to building a home in the subdivision that should have never happened and what to make sure that experiences like I had to deal with never happen again. I also am aware of extremely high levels of dysfunctionality in the operation and governance of the HRLPOA board. As it stands today the HLRPOA is incapable of performing in any regard as to what a POA should be. In-fighting and partisan stances really do not have a place in a POA.
I firmly believe that I can bring a positive change to the community as a board member. I have 40 years of experience dealing with engineering related public committees, managing challenging individuals and conflict resolution.
I am not on any side and I am very sure that I can be a voice of reason on the HLRPOA board.
Thank you for your consideration,
Chris

George Barton
My name is George Barton, and I’m running for a position on the HLRPOA board. We, my wife and I, spend approximately 4 months a year on the ranch to enjoy peace and solitude. We have no agenda.
The HLRPOA is presently in turmoil which resulted in no board. I possess valuable experience dealing with conflict resolution. As a frontline manager for a government agency, I dealt with the public, handled complaints and protests from the public on a regular basis. I was also responsible for negotiating with an employee union to resolve grievances. If I’m elected to the board, this experience will help me to work with all parties.
Since 2001 I’ve been involved in our HLRPOA community. I served on the road committee (RC) for a number of years. As a recently appointed RC member, I will advocate to make the roads the primary use of POA’s assessments beyond operating expenses. If elected, my goal will be to follow the words of the bylaws dated 10/20/21: “the purpose of the owner’s association is of fostering, nurturing, and promoting the welfare, social enjoyment, and other needs of the property owners. “
Thank you,
George Barton

Deb McFarland
I am Deb McFarland. I want to serve on the HLRPOA Board of Directors. I own four lots in HLR (138-141). These lots are a key part of my retirement dream of having a place to live out my days on land that I love with my family and my animals. I have been a middle school teacher and elementary school principal in Phoenix. I am currently serving as a foreign service officer with the U.S. Department of State. I am proud to be a western girl who loves wide-open western vistas and lifestyles.
My goals for the board are:
-to repair and maintain our roads, to improve our lives and our property values;
-to support and celebrate our neighbors, who are building their own family homesteads, ranches, farms, or peaceful refuges in harmony with our unique and beautiful Southwest environment.
-to be fair and equitable in all matters.
In my work life, I have been a teacher, mentor, leader, and now I am a diplomat. I serve our Constitution and believe that truth and transparency are the keys to moving forward and building a healthy future. I appreciate the opportunity to serve our association.

Greetings fellow High Lonesome property owners! I’d like to take a moment to introduce myself. My husband John and I are the proud owners of Lot 52. We currently reside in San Tan Valley, AZ with our three children. As many of you, we were drawn to the beauty and solitude that High Lonesome offers. We hope to one day build our dream homestead on our property and reside their full-time. We are extremely excited about playing an active role in our High Lonesome community, and I would very much like to be considered as a candidate for the Association Board. There appears to be an extreme amount of divisive and unfriendly behavior; I feel that the addition of fresh and impartial individuals to the committee will be invaluable.
Thank you for your time and thoughtful consideration.
Sincerely,
Shanon Togneri

Keri Whitmire
Dear High Lonesome Ranch Estates POA Members,
My name is Keri Whitmire and this letter serves to announce my intent in running for the HLR POA BOD. I am looking forward to being able to serve the HLR neighborhood community and help make our community an even better place to live.
My life partner, Douglas Spurdens, and I purchased property in HLR earlier this year and are looking forward to building our dream home. Douglas and I have grown children ages 20-28 and our biggest goal in developing our property is to provide a legacy for our children. In our spare time we love to hike and travel and we have a keen interest in permaculture and sustainability. We are very much looking forward to becoming part of the HLR community!
A background working in government at the State and Local levels as well as my experience in Law Enforcement would be of great benefit to this position. My Bachelor’s degree in Organizational Leadership would also serve this position well. Over the years I have been involved in many volunteer positions including serving the cancer community within the Relay For Life events, several years of experience as a foster parent, and serving our former community as a board member for our local garden club.
You may be wondering what I have to offer the POA, so here are a few of my goals:
1. A commitment to making HLR a better place for every community member.
2. Being fair and thoughtful in all decisions impacting HLR.
3. A calm demeanor and the ability to work with diverse personalities and interests.
4. Good judgment as well as strong critical thinking skills.
I hope you will vote for me in the upcoming election. Thank you for your consideration!
Kindest regards,
Keri Whitmir

I am an outsider (not a politician), and I am a mental health professional. I am for the following: Honesty and fairness. Embodying rural values. Honoring our precious American liberties. Putting the past behind and learning to not repeat it. Keeping safeguards that stop selective discriminatory enforcement of the past. Permanently stopping the POA and BOD from enabling intimidation, aggression, or mental illness on the Ranch that have hurt property owners and the reputation of the Ranch.
I am for a BOD that represents all owners, focuses on roads, keeping dues low, being financially responsible, protecting property values, and maintaining a friendly and safe environment while respecting privacy, diversity, and the right of owners to live according to their cultures and values, without fear of discrimination. I am for honoring the right to build owner-built homes and homesteads, in peace.
These will help owners get along better, feel safer, and make HLR more pleasant. This will improve the reputation of this Ranch and will protect and increase property values.
I hold myself, and expect others to, a higher standard than what is “legal”. I ask “What is loving?”.
